Comedian Chris Rock made news recently by saying something that I think he actually meant seriously. While voicing support for Obama’s gun control initiatives, Rock said we should listen to Obama, because the President isn’t just our boss, he’s also like our dad. I bet Chris didn’t think of George W. Bush as his boss OR his dad, but that’s okay. No American should think of ANY President that way. I bet your boss doesn’t beg you every four years to let him keep his job. I know your dad doesn’t. The President’s place in the pecking order was set right at the start by George Washington. The Senate wanted his official title to be “His Highness the President of the United States of America and Protector of the Rights of the Same.” Washington thought “President” was good enough and the fact remains: the President is a public servant. We are HIS boss.
