Javelin: Too Much Distance

When Uwe Hohn set a world record in the javelin throw of 104.80 m (343.8 ft), the International Amateur Athletics Federal decided to re-design the throwing spear to shorten tosses during competition. While we hate to see old records invalidated by changes in the rules, consider that such a throw covers nearly the entire inner diameter of a standard running track, not counting the athletes' run-ups. When it comes to throwing spears, safety counts!
