Nigerian Justice

A foreigner is convicted of a crime and sentenced to death by torture. He is amazed, however, when the day for his punishment comes and he is put into a queue with a large number of unconcerned inmates. He asks, "What do they do to you here?"

A fellow convict answers, "First they put you in an electric chair for an hour. Then they lay you on a bed of nails for another hour. Then the Nigerian security detail comes in and whips you for the rest of the day."

"That sounds horrible," says the man. "Why are so many people laughing and joking while they wait?"

"Because of power cuts, the electric chair does not work. The nails were paid for but never supplied, so the bed is comfortable. And the security forces are just civil servants, so they come in, sign their time sheets, and leave to conduct their private business."
