On this day in 1956, the Brooklyn Dodgers traded Jackie Robinson to the New York Giants. Robinson was a pioneering player and was the first African-American player in Major League Baseball. Robinson had a strong career with the Dodgers but was getting up there in years. The Dodgers decided to trade him to the Giants with that in mind. However, Robinson refused to accept the trade and ultimately retired from the game.
