On this day in 1944, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the New York Rangers 15-0 in a hockey game. This remains the biggest blowout in the history of the sport. The Red Wings also set a record with eight goals in the third period. They outshot the Rangers 58-9 in the game and nearly had a 16th goal. However, the puck reached the net after the final horn sounded.
